z Albania in crisis, reasons for protest

fotoThe Chairman of the Socialist Party of Albania has started in the Academy of Arts, in Tirana, a series of meetings with the topic “Albania in crisis, reasons for protest” through which it is aimed to explain the multifaceted political, economic and democracy crisis our country faces today.

Rama has declared that the SPA will sit at the table of the President of the Republic to achieve the opening of ballot boxes, and emphasized the SPA determination to proceed with protests by warning Prime Minister Berisha to not use the dialog as a means to distract the opposition.

Following the questions of the journalists, Rama spoke about the importance of the opposition action as a battle for the free vote and not in the name of power or against the Democratic Party, but as an opportunity to put an end for good the unacceptable history of election manipulations.

“The crisis in Albania is multifaceted and multidimensional. We have defined it as a crisis that is destroying the economy, the rule of law and democracy. The dialog would have been undoubtedly extended in all aspects of our public request if it was not conditioned with the non-opening of the ballot boxes. So, in case that the investigation object would have been unconditioned and the majority of the committee composed by the opposition would have been allowed to investigate all the extension of the electoral process deformation then the dialog would have considered all the issues that comprise not only the transparency of the ballot boxes, but also all kind of pressure and manipulations prior and after this process.

There is not doubt that the dialog is useful at any time, and especially today. The SPA has made a very big compromise. It has witnessed the crime and nevertheless it accepts the result as an expression of the court decision. We have conditioned the joining of the Parliament with the election investigation not to oppose the court, but to overthrow a system that is only sophisticating, and it is difficult to be eradicated ... read more

z As Albanians get poorer, the government payrolls 35 deputy ministers
Socialist MP Erion Braçe denounced the fact that in a time of economic crisis, the government of Sali Berisha is spending more money in order to reward its allies with deputy minister posts. According to Braçe this is the highest number of deputy ministers since 1912, and this is costing 1.6 billion lekë per year to Albanians, or the equivalent of the welfare payment for 7000 unemployed citizens, or 1271 pensioners. “In other words, Albanians pay 2.3 Euros per minute only for the 35 vice-ministers, in addition to the Euros that they have to pay for the 16 ministers that do not serve them. This is the bill Albanians have to pay in return for being poor.” ... read more

z Lustration law, another slap in the face for Berisha

MP Ligori stated that this was the 17th case in the 4 years of Berisha’s government that the Constitutional Court has repealed laws that run counter to the country’s Constitution. MP Ligori expressed the readiness of the Socialist Party to contribute to the drafting of a new law, but she said that “The new law should first and foremost respect the Constitution and the recommendations of the Venice Commission. The investigation of the crimes of the past should not be used in order to cover the sins of the present.” ... read more

The socialist MP Ilir Beqja has called on the parliamentarians of the ruling majority not to adopt the normative act on the 2009 State Budget and to ask transparency on the income level by the Prime Minister Berisha and Minister of Finance. MP Beqja has considered the drafting of the normative act on 23 December, when the Parliament was convened in a plenary session, as a successive violation of the Constitution. “It is also absurd that 35 days after the year 2009 was concluded the parliamentarians are asked to adopt the incomes, the expenditures and the deficit of 2009.” ... read more
