Berisha violates the bank deposits of the Albanians
Edi Rama compared the current economic situation to that of 1996 when the country’s finances collapsed. During his weekly conversation with journalists, he said that just as in 1996 when due to the electoral expenses the government borrowed unaffordable amounts of money from the domestic market, today too, the electoral expenses stemming from 2009 mean that the government is faced with a bill it cannot afford. The government, Rama said, has increased borrowing from the domestic market because it is unable to collect the money it should collect from taxes, VAT and excise taxes, since the whole system has collapsed. The SP Chairman also accused the government of putting its hands into the bank deposits of the citizens in order to implement a ridiculous rise in pensions.
“The deposits which Sali Berisha is using thus threatening to cause a collapse of the whole system that feeds the economy, that stimulates the entrepreneurship that keeps alive the jobs it helps create, and which will not be able to borrow any longer from the banks because all the funds are going to the government’s pockets. And out of these pockets come the deposits of the Albanians which are given back to their families in the shape of a rise in pensions.”
The Chairman of the Socialist Party also touched upon the political crisis in the country. He reaffirmed the will of the Socialist Party to see its cause for transparency to the end and called on Sali Berisha to put an end to the political crisis.
“We will not take part in any voting process or initiative coming from this government which we will face with the full power of our resistance in a battle that will escalate again and again until Albania comes back to the principles of constitutionalism and transparency”. Rama also declared that he supported fully the decision of the Socialist Parliamentary Group not to vote any laws in Parliament ... read more |
